Chemistry and real estate may seem like two completely different subjects with no overlap, but former chemistry teacher Cindy LoPresti has done it all. Starting as a teacher 18 years ago, Lo Presti fell in love with teaching and the subject chemistry. However last year, Lo Presti began to pursue her interest in real estate.

Real estate and teaching chemistry may seem like two completely unalike and unrelated subjects. “I think it’s really interesting that Lo Presti was both a realtor and teacher at the same time,” said junior JT Gorman. Although the subjects do not seem to relate to one another, Lo Presti has a deep interest in both of them and explains that both jobs are based on helping educate people. When working as a teacher, you are helping students learn valuable information, and when you are working in real estate you are helping people find their new home and teaching them how to go through the process of purchasing a house.

Last school year, Lo Presti managed to juggle both jobs at the same time. “Doing both jobs was really difficult. I had to put the real estate on the back burner and kind of push it to the side,” said Lo Presti. This year, however, she decided to take a sabbatical and pursue real estate full time with full effort. So far, Lo Presti is doing very well with her new career path. She has sold three houses this year and has two properties listed currently.

This year, Lo Presti started off the school year teaching for Michele D’Alesandro, who has been recovering from knee surgery. Throughout the year she will continue to be in and out of Langley subbing in the science department. Lo Presti is definitely missed at Langley. “I miss Mrs. Lo Presti and I hope that she is doing well in real estate,” said Lo Presti’s former student, Mary Buttarazzi.

The transition from working two jobs at once to fully focusing on one career has been very successful. “It was a fairly easy transition to be able to go from part time to full time because I didn’t have to worry about grading papers and practicing my lesson plans and after school meetings,” said Lo Presti, “Now I look back at teaching, and I’m like wow that is a hard job!”
