Saxons Salute

Langley faculty has introduced a new program called Saxon Salute to reward students for good deeds. Assistant Principal Mr. Jim Robertson created the program in late November to help make Langley a better environment where students are motivated to help other students and encourage a positive attitude. Teachers give students a special piece of orange paper with an explanation on the back of why they received the award. Students can bring the paper into the main office and get a wrist band. In addition, students are invited to attend a surprise party to celebrate their good behavior. What we will do at the end of the month is probably have an ice cream party, cookies, or some kind of treat, Mr. Robertson said. What I wanted to do is have a way for teachers and staff to recognize that students are doing great things. Mr. Robertson came up with the idea for this program at a previous school and wants Langley to also try it out. About 30 to 40 students have received the award so far, but Mr. Robertson is hopeful that it will be around for a long time. In order to get rewarded, students can contribute to Langley by helping new students, being kind to teachers, or anything else that is considered nice and thoughtful. The December end of month party will be held later this month due to winter break.
