When you think of a teacher who’d win “Teacher of the Year,” you probably think of a teacher who makes effective handouts, a few jokes in class, and assigns fun projects. Only a few teachers at Langley can encompass all of these traits, and one of them is Ms. Jennifer Bonafide.
Jennifer Bonafide is Langley’s “Teacher of the Year” because she encompasses all of these traits and more. She was recommended by both students and faculty alike, her students sending in a substantial amount of personal testimonies, hilarious one-on-one encounters, and “Bonafide-isms” (little tokens of Bonafide wisdom).
“Not only is ‘Bon Bon’ a perfect human being, but she really is an amazing teacher” said current AP Literature student senior Luke McLindon. “And she has the voice of an angel when she reads aloud,” he added.
Typical class assignments are anything but typical as Ms. Bonafide tries to extend the required literature into interactive activities.
“We do a lot of hands-on activities in class and she is so enthusiastic about what we do, and that keeps us engaged,” said senior Jack Flatley. “That’s one of the many reasons why I recommended her,” he added.
From an after school showing of the movie Never Let Me Go, based on the novel her AP Literature students just completed, to projects for her sophomores comparing literature characters to celebrities, Ms. Bonafide “takes every assignment outside the text itself, and that’s what makes literature interesting” said McLindon.
Being Teacher of the Year doesn’t only mean teaching students how to analyze required literature for Ms. Bonafide, but also how to become informed readers of all sorts of texts.
