Each year on December 8th, Buddhists come together on Boddhi Day to celebrate the day in which Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Boddhi tree. Searching for the answer to his questions, Siddhartha Gautama vowed to lie underneath the Boddhi tree until his questions were answered. A week later, after fasting and meditating under this tree, Buddha arrived at the answers that would later become the fundamentals of Buddhism.
Some Buddhists choose to commemorate this holiday through meditation or by chanting Buddhist texts. Others choose to simply immerse themselves in the readings, along with tea and cake.
