This past Tuesday, women’s varsity tennis took on McLean High School in one of their biggest games of the season. This was their tenth game this spring, which they won with a final score of 7-2. With the win on Tuesday, the Saxons extend their perfect record of now 10-0.
According to sophomore starter Sydney Goodson, “Our team always gets motivated for our matches but playing against a rivalry team like McLean we were really pumped and constantly supporting each other during the match.”
The Saxons had battled the Highlanders in a game earlier this year, in March, where they coined a victory at 6-3.
When asked about thoughts on Tuesday afternoon’s game freshman Maddy Nguyen said, “We have a really strong team, the top six and the exhibition matches. I’m really proud of how far we’ve come. McLean has a tough team, but we pulled together and beat them even better than we did last time!”
In the singles matches played, the Saxons won 5 of 6 games. Junior Avani Hegde, senior McKenzie Malpede, senior Vivian Louthan, senior Jenny Liu, and sophomore Sydney Goodson were those who won their singles matches.
In doubles, the Saxons won 2 of the 3 games. Sydney Goodson and Melissa Parks ended up losing after a tough battle. However, Jenny Liu and McKenzie Malpede paired up and came out victorious and Vivian Louthan and Avani Hegde did the same.
Even though the Saxons did not win every match in Tuesday’s game they still pulled off the win by 5 matches. Come support your Saxons by coming to their next game against Stone Bridge on April 19 at 4 pm.
