This past Friday, the Saxon Swim and Dive team faced off against the South Lakes Seahawks at the Spring Hill Recreation Center. After the diving portion of the meet, the buzzer rang and the boy’s team began the 200 Medley Relay, followed by the girls. As the meet continued, the cheers from the crowd echoed off of the tiled walls, increasing the excitement of the meet. By the end of the night, the Saxons trumped over the Seahawks 345 to 279, a spectacular victory. “If we continue performing at this rate I see amazing things happening for our team,” said senior Allie Zeidan.
Langley’s victory over the Seahawks shows the progress that the team has made this season and also the talent that the team has to offer. “I think that the Langley swim team has performed very well this year especially given the loss of a lot of senior talent last year,” said senior captain Wade Whitt. “We’ve had some great meets and some excellent swimming by everyone.”
The team looks forward to the district competitions that are soon to follow. This was the second-to-last meet that Langley will compete in before Liberty District and then Regional competitions begin. “The boys team could end up anywhere between first and third in Districts, and the girls team probably won’t have much trouble getting first place,” said junior swimmer Michael Ratcliffe. “As for Regionals, we’ve already had a ton of qualifying times and will hopefully be able to send a large group there as well.”
Later this week, Langley Swim and Dive will compete against the Thomas Jefferson Colonials in the hopes of success and gaining yet another victory for their almost perfect record.
“We’ve come together as a team, and that’s showing in the water,” said Zeidan.
