As usual, the Beat McLean pep rally resulted in mixed opinions about the enthusiasm and activities. This basketball season, the Mclean game rally got some students excited about the game, and others- not so much.
To start the activities, SGA members introduced the players, followed by all senior captains of winter sports. Many boys’ basketball players showed off their dramatic shoots for the crowds to see. It got one of the loudest reactions of the day. There was then an intense game of teacher v. student teams, where the students came out on top. The basketball coaches played their own game where they had to get as many shots as possible before the buzzer.
Later on, Steven Hintz rapped a song, as predicted by Langley student Liam Fitzmooris (10). When asked “what do you think is the most common thing about Langley pep rallies?” Fitzmooris answered “they keep making students rap, and we have bad spirit, we need better school spirit!”
The pep rally ended with the traditional “HAIL SAXONS” and got everybody excited and ready for the game before the pep rally came to a close. The pep rally also “got the basketball team more excited and ready to play, and also gave them more energy” said Gaby van Volkenburg (9).
It’s a good thing that the basketball team came ready to play their rivals. The game ended with a nail biting win, 55-52.[nggallery id=98]
