Almost everyone who arrives to school by bus has seen it and endured it: the crushing mass of humanity congregated on the second floor, waiting for access to the library. Depending on their bus schedule, some students have to wait up to 20 minutes while carrying their 15 to 30 pound backpacks in the oxygen deprived hallway for the doors of the library to swing open. Not only is the mass congregation uncomfortable for the students involved, it is obstructive to the flow of traffic in the hallway with so many teachers and students having to fight their way through the mob of students. Making matters worse for the overcrowded situation is the newly designated walkway located on the far end of the hall that has to be kept clear for people trying to get through the hallway. Students are forced to press towards the wall to make way for students trying to cross the hallway until the doors open.
There is a simple and effective solution to prevent the bone-crushing mass of students from assembling: opening the doors to the library as soon as the buses arrive at Langley. This would de-clutter the hallways, allow students access to work on the computers, and give them extra time to catch up on reading and homework instead of wasting their time standing in very uncomfortable conditions for 10 to 20 minutes each morning.
