For most people, morning announcements in past years were probably not the most exciting part of their day. This year, the new switch from the PA announcements to an SGA television broadcast might finally be the change Langley needs to get students more interested.
First, the fact that the new announcement system is sponsored by the SGA is a great aspect. Seeing the student government so involved is encouraging to students and is motivating them to be more spirited and informed.
Second, watching a visual broadcast is a lot more appealing than simply listening to a recitation of the announcements over the PA. At 7:20 in the morning, kids need something exciting that will wake them up.
“I like the T.V. better because I’m more informed and there’s something to watch,” said freshman Sam Tappan.
It’s nice to be able to see the people who are doing the announcements, instead of just hearing their voices on the intercom. And in addition, having a morning broadcast allows the SGA to air videos, pictures and other visuals.
However, as would be expected with any new program, there have been some complaints and drawbacks.
“It’s okay, I guess…but it’s kind of boring,” said sophomore Sarah Arciniegas.
“The televised announcements need better audio and transitions,” said junior Calvin Li. Junior Ally Miller agreed, adding that there are “too many issues with the TV when you have the microphone, it’s just easier to turn on.”
Once the SGA gets these technical difficulties ironed out, hopefully the entire Langley community will come to accept and enjoy the new morning broadcast. It has the potential to unite all Saxons and encourage them to stay in tune with what’s happening in the school.
