Here’s a riddle for you: what do classical music and Rome have in common? You’re probably thinking about ancient Rome, a time period when flowing aqueducts and soothing symphonies sprouted the growth of an empire that ruled the continent of Europe for hundreds of years in the name of Julius Caesar.
Well, you’re wrong. The correct answer is the Langley Orchestra.
The Langley Orchestra will be traveling to Rome on January 28 for its annual weeklong trip. They plan to spend six days visiting the Coliseum, Pompeii, and many other famous landmarks. They will also be performing a few concerts along the way, including one with another high school orchestra.
“It’s my first time, so it’s great to spend a few days getting a different experience,” said senior Omer El-Sekkaki. “I want to go to the Sistine Chapel. I’m annoyed we can’t take pictures inside, though.”
For those that have been on the Langley Orchestra trip before, this one seems different from the rest.
“This one will definitely be more entertaining,” senior Darcy Davidson explained. “One year we went to Nashville and there wasn’t really much to do there. I think Rome will more fun, especially since I’ve never been there before.”
Senior Danny Perez also compares this year’s trip with past trips. “There will be a lot of people coming, so it’ll be more crowded. We probably won’t have as much freedom as the other trips, but we’ll still have fun. It’s always fun to spend a week somewhere new with my friends and I’ve never been overseas before, so I’m excited.”
To sum up all of the stirring emotions for this year’s trip, Davidson explains, “Honestly, it’s my senior year, it’s my last trip of high school, and we’re going to Rome. Why wouldn’t I want to go?”
