Langley students will be getting a few extra days of summer thanks to the lack of snowfall this year. The school system only missed one school day when the region experienced severe flooding during the first week of school in September. Instead of closing on Tuesday, June 19, Fairfax County Public School students will be released on Friday, June 15 since the county has an excess of make-up days. Seniors will still graduate on June 14th as scheduled.
Students hearing about the new last day of school were excited by the news. “More summer, yay!” said freshman Sofia Duque-Lewis. Cameron Davis, also a freshman, added that “it’s a relief. We don’t have to waste the time that we spend during the last days of school.”
The Fairfax County School Board will discuss the change and is expected to finalize the new schedule in April.
