La vie en rose, which means “the life in rose,” is not only the title of famous French singer Edith Piaf’s most famous song, it is also the theme of the upcmoing Langley orchestra concert on Dec. 14.
“We are going to perform songs written by French composers,” said Philharmonic Orchestra member, junior Michelle Chu. “There will also be a band playing with us, so it will definitely be exciting.”
All three sections of the Langley Orchestra – freshmen, symphonic and philharmonic – will be performing in the concert. “We want to expose the audience to the French language, culture and music,” said director Dr. Scott McCormick. Guest conductor Glenn Quader, the director of the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, will be also conducting one of the pieces in this concert.
In addition to French music, the concert will also include French students as emcees, a French bake sale and a recitation of French poetry by Langley French teachers Mme Houde and Mme Weiser. And to top it off, a guest mime artist is scheduled to perform between songs.
“I love the idea of collaborating with other aspects of France at our school and giving people experience with a new culture,” said McCormick.
“This concert is going to be so entertaining. Everyone should come!” said Chu.
