Grand Revival, a rock band whose front man is Langley’s own senior Alex Obolensky, entertained visitors at the Old Firehouse Teen Center block party.
Tblock party, held to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Old Firehouse Teen Center, included a “McLean Teens Got Talent” competition. Grand Revival won first place in the group category of the competition, and enjoyed another opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
Performing in the “McLean Teens Got Talent” competition meant facing a panel of judges. Obolensky said that performing in front of a judging panel was a new experience but, at the same time, maintained that, “Whenever you are on stage, everyone watching is judging you.”
Gauging the crowd’s reaction to his performance proved a greater challenge than performing for a group of judges. “It’s harder to judge a crowd’s reaction when you are in an outdoor venue,” said Obolensky. This was especially true at the block party, which featured attractions like a dunk tank and art stands to distract attendees from the music.
