After serving eight years as Langley’s College and Career Specialist, Ms. Betty Schneider has opted to retire this fall with the birth of her grandson, Dylan Thomas, and her son’s wedding drawing near.
“My extended family is growing and I feel as though the seniors know where they are applying now,” said Ms. Schneider. “It was the right timing.”
While Ms. Schneider’s favorite memories include watching the seniors take “baby steps” into adulthood and revisiting them as graduates, her colleagues hold recollections of her that are just as fond.
“I will miss her gracious disposition, and how she always said ‘yes’ when you needed help,” said Spanish teacher Señora Prell. “She is supporting, knowledgeable and classy. She truly gave students confidence.”
A counselor from Edison High School, Ms. Allison, will be taking over the Career Center, to whom Ms. Schneider describes as “very experienced and knowledgeable.”
Though Ms. Schneider is sad to depart from the Langley community, she has high hopes for the future of her students.
“My best advice is to be patient, because the sun does shine tomorrow. There’s no right or wrong in the college process, and where you go does not measure your success—it’s what you do and how much energy you put in,” said Ms. Schneider. “It all works out, believe in yourself. It’ll all work out.”
