The career center has always been a place where students can investigate college options and explore countless job possibilities. Previously located in the large, glass encased area adjacent to the square, the room was covered with endless rows of books and pamphlets available for students’ taking.
“I came in and I wanted to see what my options were and see if anything suited what I love to do,” said freshman Maria Eddleman.
However, this year the facility was moved and is now located in the classroom next to the library, formerly the Russian II classroom.
”I think it is better that the career center moved because I had no idea where it was before,” said sophomore Pallavi Prayaga.
Several causes prompted the career center’s relocation, but the primary reason was for the benefit of the special education department.
“The special ed department conference room was buried back [in the library] and they needed space in the front of the building for easier access,” said Principal Mr. Matthew Ragone.
Administrative meetings now take place in the former career center, as special education conference meetings are being held in Mr. Ragone’s old conference room.
Future plans for career center use include bringing students in to visit the center during class in order to make more students aware of all the important resources it has to offer.
“Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Schneider, and I have a vision for the career center to be integrated into the curriculum in a high traffic area,” said Mr. Ragone.
