The Saxon Scope website, www.saxonscope.com, has qualified as a finalist for the National Scholastic Press Association’s Online Pacemaker contest. Out of 166 high schools that entered their journalism websites, only 36 were chosen as finalists to win the award. The Saxon Scope was one of three websites selected in Virginia and the only one chosen from Fairfax County. “Over the past year, I’ve seen the site grow tremendously, and thanks to the work of our staff and online editors we are now a nationally recognized site,” said Executive Online Editor Chris Roman.
Websites were judged based on writing, photography, design, interactivity, organization and frequency of updates. The Saxon Scope website, which was designed in the fall and updated daily, is now in the running for the prestigious Pacemaker, the superior award in the NSPA Online competition. The winners will be announced for the first time at a convention in Anaheim, California on Apr. 17.
