After a successful first year, the Langley Visual Arts department is excited to launch the second annual trip to New York city. The trip proved to be a big success last year and all fifty slots were filled quickly.
This year, the students participating plan to visit the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) as well as the Museum of Art Design. Students are expected to be ready to leave for New York as early as 4:30 am. Boarding the bus is then followed by a nearly five-hour drive with a stop for breakfast at the Delaware House around the halfway mark. After arriving, students will first stop at the Museum of Modern Art, where they will be treated to a guided tour as well as free time to explore the museum. The students will then eat lunch. Afterwards, the students will allowed to tour the Museum of Modern Art as they please until they have to report back to their teachers in order to prepare for departure back to Langley. Students will stop once again at the Delaware House and are expected to arrive back at Langley at ten pm.
Although many students tend to see field trips as “excused” breaks from school, this trip will serve as an exciting opportunity to learn about art in the big apple. “It’s a great opportunity for students to get exposed to the real art world,” said photography teacher Amanda Archibald.
