Saxons Speak – Washington Commanders

What do students think of the Washington Football Team’s new name?

As announced earlier today, the Washington Football Team has now been named The Washington Commanders. Founded in 1932 as the Redskins, the team has had two name changes in the past three years. Here’s what some Langley students had to say about the name change:

“I think the Washington Football Team was much better than The Commanders. [The Commanders] is a very generic name, sounding like something that an elementary school football team would name themselves.” —Senior Max Moser

“It sounds corny. The name is too long. The name doesn’t sound nice and doesn’t fit with the team like both the old names did. The new jerseys are the only good thing about the new name. A better name for the team would have been Redwolves.” —Freshman Aiden Daly

“The name is boring. It is too basic and doesn’t sound as nice as the Redskins or Washington Football Team. They hyped the new name up so much and gave their fans this which was really underwhelming.” —Freshman Heeva Mossaddad

“I don’t like it, although it is better than Washington Football Team. A real name was needed, but a better name could have been chosen, I feel. The only part of the new name change is that the jerseys look amazing.” —Junior Patrick Kelly
