The Siemens Competition, which is administered by the College Board, is the nation’s premier research competition for high school students. This prestigious event is aimed primarily towards high school students with advanced scientific skills. The competition has over 2000 competitors from across the nation participate primarily for the scholarships and the cash rewards of $3000 for a team and $6000 for a team winning the regional competition. Competitors are classified by region, with Fairfax County Public Schools generating eight lucky, talented and dedicated students who have spent hours perfecting their unique projects. Students design their projects from scratch while submitting an extensive entry form. Thirty entries are selected and elected to compete in the regional competition where they present their projects to colleges like MIT and Georgia Tech and from their they will be chosen to advance into the finals.
Senior Jason Cui was the only student from Langley to be selected for the semi-finals and the only student selected outside of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
“I feel a sense of pride that I’m able to represent Langley to an extent. However, I’m happy that my peers at TJ were able to complete such amazing projects,” said Cui.
