Sponsored by the ASCA (American School Counselor Association), National School Counselors Week lasts from Feb. 7-11 and is a time dedicated to the influential counselors that can make a tremendous impact on a student’s life. Principal Matt Ragone announced the weeklong event this Monday over the intercom, encouraging students to go visit their counselors and offer a word of thanks.
Counselors play a completely necessary role in students’ lives. They provide free therapy and advice on all aspects of life, from social situations to academics. Along with personal counseling, counselors also offer their services when it comes to time to apply to college – they write recommendations, help with essays, and make sure students meet all the admissions deadlines. Another service they provide is assistance with course selections and career guidance. Although commonly taken for granted, counselors are vital to creating a comfortable and fully functioning school community.
