You don’t need to be an amazing singer to join Langley’s new Hip-Hop Culture club.
The club was recently started by senior Matt Olfat, who wanted “to think of something original and fun” for students enjoyment, since there are already so many clubs dedicated to helping less fortunate communities as well as educational purposes.
The whole idea of ‘hip-hop culture’ is to listen to, discuss and enjoy hip-hop music. Many students are excited about Langley’s addition of the club. “I really wanted to join because I’m really into hip-hop,” said sophomore Li Chien. “I thought it sounded pretty cool. They could have freestyling and open-mic nights, and everyone could bring in a favorite song to share.”
However, some students feel otherwise. “If you really like hip-hop, you could listen to it on your own time. Why does there need to be a club for it?” speculated sophomore Sarah Kinniburgh.
Hip-Hop Culture club got off to a good start with their first meeting, and will be bringing in music for their next gathering. “It’s an awesome club,” said Olfat. “A lot of people like hip-hop, and I like hip-hop, so it’ll be a lot of fun.”
