Ever since 2020, Langley High School and Cooper Middle School have come together each spring to host their joint fundraiser 5K, Bands on the Run. More than just a race, this event plays a crucial role in supporting the band programs at both schools. It helps fund music education, buy instruments, cover competition and travel costs, and create more opportunities for student musicians. The race is organized by the local running shop, PR Running. They handle important tasks like registration, timing, race bib distribution, and course setup. With over one hundred participants signed up this year, the event has turned into a lively community gathering. Besides the race, attendees enjoyed sponsor booths from local businesses, music from a live DJ, and a vibrant atmosphere that kept spirits high throughout the morning. This year’s Bands on the Run 5K took place in McLean on Sunday, April 26 at 8:00 a.m. The course started and finished at Langley High School, taking runners and walkers through the peaceful streets of the Langley Oaks neighborhood. Participants of all ages and skill levels joined in, from competitive runners chasing personal bests to families and friends walking together at an easy pace. After the race, the event continued with music, refreshments, and time for participants to connect and celebrate. It served not only as a fundraiser but also as a way to strengthen community ties and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.
