Model UN is a highly focused club for the strong willed and competitive who seek to better their deliberation skills and expand their knowledge of international affairs. Although many people at Langley may not know it, the Langley Model UN team is one of the strongest in the area. It took 2nd place overall at William and Mary’s conference and 1st place at Duke’s conference last year. In addition, the team was ranked 7th best delegate high school in the south last year.
“Most people would not enjoy spending our discussing some obscure international issue, but I really do enjoy the arguments and deliberations,” said Under-Secretary General (Vice President) Mujtaba Wani.
An interesting blend of politics, international affairs and speaking, Model UN is an activity that gets likeminded students involved in an exciting and competitive atmosphere.
“I am competitive; I love to win. Model UN is more than an activity; it’s a competition,” said Wani. “Everyone enjoys the trips to college towns and the actual competition.”
The team now looks to find the same success this year in its next conference, ILMUNC (hosted at the University of Pennsylvania) on Jan. 26.
