Girls Volleyball Season Wrapup

Sadly, everything must come to an end. After an incredibly successful season, the Langley Girls Varsity volleyball team lost in four sets to Ocean Lakes High School in the semifinals of the state tournament in Virginia Beach. Finishing with a record of twenty-seven wins and three losses, this year’s team should be remembered for its dominance, regardless of the finale.

Seniors, Raya Mufti, Lauren Pratte, Jessica Dean, and Sarah Maebious will all be heavily missed as they now move on to college. Their passion and leadership will be passed along and will always remain in the program. “Our success throughout our entire season couldn’t have been achieved without the support and leadership of the four seniors on our team,” says Junior Grace Roemer.

Capping off a season of immense team success, many Langley players received district, and regional honors. Elena Shyklar, junior, won both district and regional player of the year, and senior libero Sarah Maebious won district and regional libero of the year. In addition to Elena and Sarah, Allison Franke received both first team all-district and all-region. Also, senior outside hitter Raya Mufti received first team all-district and an honorable mention for regionals. Finally, senior Lauren Pratte, sophomore Jackson Friedman and freshman Olivia Franke received honorable mentions for districts.

Despite the Saxons fall in the state semifinals, these talented ladies should be immensely congratulated and celebrated for their excellence this season.”I have made some of my best friends throughout my years on Langley Volleyball,” said Senior captain Raya Mufti, “Even though preseason two a days are demanding, it is easy to look past it because I love everyone on the team so much.”
