Neon green shapes resembling goblins running throughout the hallways, giving high-fives, and spreading school spirit- what’s not to love? With the introduction of morph suits as spirit wear this school year, many have been donning the full-body cover and shielding their faces. As adventurous as it sounds, in this case mysteriously masked figures are no hidden heroines to welcome.
Let’s just begin by pointing out how hazardous to school security this is. Given that our school doors are never locked during school hours, any everyday Joe can just walk right in. Even when walking in the hallways in the mornings, students, parents, and other adults are commonly spotted in the massive crowd of kids scrambling to class. Right now, morph suits are not too large an issue, as most people aren’t daring enough to walk around in them throughout an entire school day, but how are we supposed to know who the green outline standing next to us is?
With their faces covered, it could be a potential child predator or serial
killer, and we would be welcoming them by exchanging high fives. I know that the preceding statement may appear completely improbable, because Langley students seem to have an increasingly large false sense of security. We go to school in McLean and live in Northern Virginia, so nothing can happen to us. I beg to differ. Need I remind everyone about the Virginia Tech incident?
The original purpose of morph suits was simply to wear them to school games to strengthen Langley spirit. Seeing as absolutely anyone can get into a game with the purchase of a ticket, the next school shooter could walk in without being recognized. Of course, when wearing such an amusing costume, the crowd naturally is drawn towards them.
Now let’s target the morph suit wearers that are actually students at Langley.
When observing their interaction in the hallways, they seem to get pushed and shoved quite often. The instigator seems to forget there is an actual person inside the suit, and subsequently, the morph suit wearer becomes fair game. You wouldn’t randomly kicksomebody walking by in the hallway, but wearing a morph suit seems to serve as a relinquishing of respect and humanness.
As much fun as I will admit the morph suits appear, they have an undeniably
sinister vibe that causes more problems than the hype is worth.
