The losing streak has ended, Langley Girls Tennis has finally beaten Thomas Jefferson after five years. On April 12, the Langley girls’ tennis team defeated TJ, state qualifiers last year, by a score of 5 to 3.
Led by sophomores Kathryn Emery and Kitty Branche, Langley gave TJ its first loss of the season. “I’m so happy we were able to beat TJ, it was such an exciting mach,” Emery said.
For the seniors on the tennis team, this is the first victory against TJ in their high school careers. “It was very exciting, as it was the first time in my four years on the team that we beat TJ. Walking off the court after winning the final doubles match was the best moment I’ve ever had during my years in Langley tennis. The entire team was jumping up and down and cheering, and the excitement was really genuine.” Senior Schuyler Tompkins said.
Langley is tied for first in the district with McLean and TJ. Only two teams will make it to districts. The girls will try to avenge their loss to McLean earlier in the season when they play on April 28 at Langley, and try to beat TJ again on May 3 at Mason District Park.
