DIVERSEartLANGLEY

A Call for Submissions

DIVERSEartLANGLEY

The Langley High School PTSA’s committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is offering a wonderful opportunity for student artists to submit their work to an art exhibit while fostering discussions on equity and inclusion. The exhibit, called DIVERSEartLANGLEY, will take place in Langley Hall on Thursday, March 24th, from 6:00-7:00 pm.

The idea for the exhibit came about when the PTSA’s committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was looking for a way to give students the opportunity to showcase their talents while sharing their unique experiences. DIVERSEartLANGLEY will feature work in a variety of art forms including photography, paintings and drawings, sculpture, small-scale architecture, short stories, music, dance, and film. All submissions should engage with one of three central questions relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion:

  1. What does diversity look like in my community?
  2. What does equity mean to me?
  3. Are you able to be your authentic self and still be safe and accepted?

To submit their work to the exhibit, students should create their pieces and drop them off at the DIVERSEartLANGLEY table that will be set up in Langley Hall between 7:45 and 8:10 am on March 17th and March 18th. (Students submitting audio/visual digital art should do so by uploading their work to a flash drive and submitting the flash drive.) The exhibit will be followed by a discussion, and a prize announcement will be made at the end of the event.

All perspectives and voices are welcome at DIVERSEartLANGLEY, and the PTSA’s committee for Diversy, Equity, and Inclusion looks forward to seeing many unique submissions from the student body! Please contact Heather Murphy Capps ([email protected]) and Stefanie Stayin ([email protected]) with any questions about the event.
