Walking around Langley, I put my headphones in my ears and press the play button for my music. Right away I’m lost in my music, but here’s the thing, it’s not in English, but Korean. If someone went on my phone and looked at all of my music on my phone, they would find the majority of my music to be Kpop. I was introduced to Kpop in my last year of middle school by one of my best friends who is Korean. She showed me a music video of one the biggest boy groups in Kpop, and after that I was immediately hooked. Even now as a senior, I still love to listen to Kpop. I was even lucky to go to a BigBang concert in New Jersey during homecoming weekend. BigBang was the first ever Kpop group that I listened to before I started to listen to other Kpop groups. I’m also not the only one at Langley who listens to music that wasn’t produced in the U.S. Langley has a large diversity, and that definitely shows when it comes to the type of music, some Langley students listen too.

Here at Langley, there is not only a large range of diversity among students, but also when it comes to the music that they listen to as well. You can find students listening to music in many different languages including Korean, Chinese, and Arabic. Senior Doreen Luo listens to country and R&B music from China. “They make me feel relaxed and some of the Chinese country use very old traditional instruments.” Listening to music from other countries, can give

someone a small culture experience. By listening to anther countries music, it opens a whole new world for people to discover and explore.

Music helps connect people together, even though they might not be able to understand each other. Music allows for people to experience a small piece of another countries culture.

Everyone is allowed to listen to the music that they want to listen too. It doesn’t matter if you’re From one country, but you listen to music from another country. Langley’s diverse student body proves that with the different range of music types that students can be found listening too, and even now Musics range of diversity is growing with more people checking out and listening to music, not from their own country.
