Ten new Conference records were set as both Langley swim teams claimed victory at the Conference meet on Sunday February 1, 2015. This is two consecutive conference titles for the girls swim team and the first title for the boys swim team since 200. This is the first time both boys and girls won since over ten years ago. Leading the team was Fiona Muir, Maggie Natal, Eric Owens, and Patrick McCarthy as the senior captains.
Highlighting the performance at Conference, Isabella Rongione attained an Automatic All-American time and a State qualifying time in the 500 free, Micaela Grassi set a New Conference 6 Record and Langley Team Record in a State qualifying and an All-American Consideration time in the 100 Fly, and Michelle Owens placed 2nd in the 500 Free in a State qualifying and All-American Consideration time. On the Boys team, Carter Bennett set a new Conference 6 record and a new Langley Team record in a state qualifying time in the 50 free and Casey Storch set a New Conference 6 Record in a State qualifying time in the 200 free.
Reflecting back on the meet, freshman Caitlin Nguyen said, “I was so proud of my teammates and myself; I’m glad to be a part of this team.” After they announced that Langley had won for both the boys and the girls, everyone on the team jumped into the pool to celebrate, including the two coaches, Coach Jackson and Coach Sandridge. “I was ecstatic. I was excited that all of the hard work paid off,” stated freshman Alex Gomez.
On February 6th and 7th the teams participated in the regional finals. The girls team won the meet and the boys team placed fourth. At the meet, there were a number of great swims including Michelle Owens placing 4th in the 200 Free in an All-American Consideration time and 3rd in the 500 Free in an All-American Consideration time. Isabella Rongione placed 2nd in the 200 Free in an Automatic All-American time and 2nd in the 500 Free in an Automatic All-American time. Casey Storch tied for 3rd in the 200 IM in an All-American Consideration time.
