New Format for College Football Bowl Games
Finally, there is a way for lower-ranked teams in college football to have a shot at the championship. Starting this year, a new format in college football will decide the champion in a four-team playoff at the end of the season.
A 13-member voting committee will determine the four finalists for the playoff format. This 13 member voting committee is made up of multiple athletic directors, a former college quarterback, and even a former U.S. Secretary of State.
This new format allows teams that have missed the BCS National Championship Game by slim margins in past years, to have a chance at making the playoffs and contending for the title. In previous years, only the top two teams in the nation had a chance at the title, but this year four teams will battle it out creating a much more exciting post-season in college football.
One of the best attributes of this new format is that it is more forgiving. In the past, one fatal loss at any point of the season could have destroyed a team’s championship dreams. However, this year teams will be given the opportunity to come back from one bad week.
Many college football enthusiasts have already made their predictions for the four teams they believe will be the finalists for this new playoff. A few popular teams include Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. This new post-season playoff will provide fans what they have been waiting for, a playoff that allows the best of the best to contend for the championship.
