Since the sophomore class entered high school, most of them spend as much time as they can avoiding talking about college. Halle Duenkel is not like most sophomores.
Halle Duenkel, sophomore lacrosse sensation, has committed to James Madison University on a partial scholarship. She started on the Girls’ Varsity lacrosse team as a freshman, and when the offer was presented to go to JMU, it
was an easy decision. “It’s close to home and my family is able to come to my games,” Duenkel said. “I love the campus and the coaches, everything about it was just a perfect fit for me.” However, Halle does not consider herself to be anything out of the ordinary. “I’m still a regular high school student, I’m going through the same classes everyone else is. I just know what I’m going to do in the future,” said Duenkel.
Many of Duenkel’s fellow teammates have a history with her, and couldn’t be more excited about her decision. Sophomore Mackenzie Regan said, “I’ve played with Halle for eight years. The fact that she’s going to JMU is awesome because her mom played soccer there, so for her to go to the same school her mom went to is really great.” In a year or so, all juniors will be stressing about college applications and SAT scores, but Halle Duenkel will be one of the only people who will already know which college to which they’re headed. Her college destination is a testament to her hard work in school and her devotion and hustle on the lacrosse field.
