Flowers, sweaty dancing, and awkward dinner conversations are about to arrive with Homecoming in a week. But possibly scarier than the actual event, is the planning. Everyone scrambles to find a group and then begins the wonderful process of planning, and there’s nothing more painstaking and complicated than planning.
Pictures before the dance takes a lot of thinking because it takes time to find a house with nice stairs, close distance to the dinner restaurant, and chill parents.
Choosing places to eat dinner takes longer than you think. One person might post on Facebook something little like, “I’ll make reservations if everyone’s cool with Sakura.” and before you know, there are 60 comments. Terrorized, I comment “Don’t focus on the food yet. Is this the final number???”, but they continue to talk about the food. Food is good, I really understand that, but we don’t know the number of people in our group so we can’t make a reservation. The comments go up and up and up, never stopping. I would love for my phone to stop vibrating for just a few seconds.
Even if you’re not fed up with your group by dinner, the chances for a good dance are slim. Let’s talk about the dance last year. The only drink available was water which ran out fast. One of the speakers blew out; wait, no sorry, both speakers blew out. To top it off, it was extremely hot. I think all guys that went to that dance took of their jackets the second they walked in, but the sweat continued to pour as the dancing went on. Which made the slow dance..slippery. If anyone is worried about not being able to dance, don’t worry. Last year, the only dance move that really stuck with me is the “jumping fist pump”. It’s easy to learn and works for any situation.
Homecoming is considered the highlight of your freshman year and sophomore year. It’s chaotic and you want the night to end, but at the same time you don’t. Having Homecoming be the first official school dance of the year, it’s important to have fun and make it to be a super enjoyable event in your years at Langley.
