Getting attention is usually fun. I mean let’s face it, all of us teenagers would like to have the spotlight on us every once in a while.
Next week I will be in that spotlight, but it’s not exactly because I’m cool or awesome—it’s because I’m the only boy going on the Spanish exchange trip.
On Wednesday, March 20th, eight students, myself included, will be going to Spain for the first-ever Langley Spanish exchange trip.
It will be a new experience in many ways: I have never been to Europe, I have never stayed with an exchange student, and I have never traveled overseas with seven girls.
There are some benefits, though. I get my own room when we stay at the hotel in Barcelona (that means party in my room!). Also, I will probably be able to relate to the Spaniards a little easier, especially since most of them will be guys (six boys and two girls).
But as you might expect, there are some drawbacks.
Wherever the girls go, I go. That means if we are shopping in the plaza and a few girls see a shoe store, you can expect me to be staring at the wall for a few hours. Plus, it’d be nice to have some guy-to-guy conversations every once in a while.
I will be talking with my exchange student, but it’s not like my Spanish is that good.
I’m not complaining, though (despite what you may think). Going to Spain is a wonderful opportunity and I am very excited.
Besides, the girls that I am going with are very nice people. If I got stuck with the annoying girls, I don’t know what I would do. But Spain will definitely be awesome. We will be visiting stadiums, cathedrals, and our international friends—and that is the most important part.
Sometimes the strangest circumstances make the best memories.
