In 2011, Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy released a new social media app named Snapchat. Every day, Snapchat’s more than 100 million users share over 400 million snaps, surpassing the photo-sharing activity on both Instagram and Facebook.
On January 27th, Snapchat introduced a new feature called Discover. Discover contains short stories, videos, and pictures published by news platforms such as CNN, People, Comedy Central, ESPN, and Food Network. Much like Snapchat’s “My Story” feature, these daily packages of information disappear after 24-hours and are replaced by new ones to draw users to visit Discover again. The day Discover was released Snapchat said, “Discover is a new way to explore Stories from different editorial teams. It’s the result of collaboration with world-class leaders in media to build a storytelling format that puts the narrative first.”
I love Snapchat’s new Discover feature because it has snippets of information from a wide variety of sources. If I have extra time I can scroll through the People section and see what celebrities wore on the Red Carpet, visit ESPN and read the sport stat of the day, and then go the Food Network platform and learn how to make a cake in the microwave. To make things even better, I can look at all of this in less than five minutes!
Discover is a great way to keep updated on the latest news stories and trends, so if you have extra time on your hands, I would definitely recommend exploring Snapchat’s Discover.
