Five thousand dollars. What would you do with that cash? The Langley High School Robotics team certainly has a plan. The Robotics team, sponsored by Mr. Franks, Mr. Foley, and Ms. Lakatos meets every Monday.
The NASA Robotics Alliance Project recently announced the participation grants for the 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition. Langley High School, Team 611, received $5,000 as did 277 other high schools. In order for the school to receive a grant, the Robotics Team had to be registered with FIRST and confirmed at the event the sponsorship applies to. Upon receiving the grant, the team had to complete two surveys for all team members, provide NASA with a copy of the team’s Chairman’s Award Submission, and build a robot to compete at an event.
The FIRST Robotics competition is an ideal way of becoming familiar with different engineering and robotics fields. Teams from across the globe travel to participate in the event. The FIRST Robotics group thinks up a game, and teams build a robot based specifically for that game. However, these activities would not be possible for the Langley High School Team without its gracious sponsors.
