This year, the book Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins will appear on the big screen on November 22. Catching Fire, the second book in the well-known series, The Hunger Games, deserves 3.5 out of 5 stars. In this sequel, Hunger Games Victors, Katniss and Peeta, are on their victory tour. However they arrive back to district twelve right before suddenly being thrown back into the arena after President Snow crafts a clever plan kill off the flame of the rebellion, Katniss. The story lacks the high amounts of action that appeared in the other books in the series. This book is instead more about watching Peeta and Katniss’ romance grow. In the beginning Peeta and Katniss even get engaged. However, it is not until the end of the book that Katniss realizes that she loves Peeta and not Gale. Yet, without the action, and with all of the romance, this book is more of a filler chapter between books one and three. It gives the reader the necessary information to read book three, but nothing more. However if Catching Fire were a book not in this series, it would be a very well written and entertaining read. The only reason it looks weak is because it is associated, and therefore compared, to the rest of the Hunger Games series. Nevertheless, Catching Fire is a part of the series and therefore only gets 3.5 stars.
