FIFA 14 has finally arrived and it is better than ever. Fans have been waiting for months to move on from FIFA 13 and challenge their skills with the newest version of the most successful EA Games franchise of all time. The improvement from FIFA 13 is astonishing; gamers will be ecstatic with the new features, game modes and rosters.
FIFA 13 cannot compare to FIFA 14’s realistic features. The games have become a lot more realistic with the improvement in shooting, defending, first touch and ability to protect the ball.
The new shooting features let the shooter the ability to have low-rising and dipping shots. The most realistic new feature for shooters allows one to take different types of shots depending on the situation they’re in. Former Langley sophomore John Mafi said, “There is a lot more luck involved in the game which benefits a scrappy player like me.” Defenders will now mark tighter and pressure as a team just like in real life, which leads to a less constant attack-defense game and emphasizes the midfield.
The first touch of players has also become more realistic with the feature called “variable first touch.” FIFA 13 didn’t have this, so it was difficult to control the ball on the first touch while a player was sprinting. “I think first touch adds a sense of realistic gameplay that the FIFA 13 lacked,” said junior Alex De Thier. The ability to protect the ball has also become more lifelike. Players can now use their strength to shield the ball from defenders.
The most played game mode in all of FIFA, Ultimate Team, has changed as well. Ultimate Team is a game mode where a gamer can make their own team with whomever they choose depending on how many coins they earn.
Ultimate team is home to a multitude of changes regarding chemistry. Chemistry is vital when assembling a team when competing online or against your friends. New chemistry styles can be applied as consumables to each player, and can boost certain stats depending on the style of play.
The dramatic changes from FIFA 13 to FIFA 14 were a bold move by EA Games, and the changes require quite a bit of adjustment, but once acquainted, the realism is unparalleled by other games.
