White room. Danica Patrick. A laptop. And then boom—random hot girl and a nerd making out…for a very, very long time.
This Go Daddy advertisement was one of the many standout commercials in the Super Bowl this year.
Some of the commercials were the same old, same old, while other commercials were pretty creative.
Hold on to your seat (or in some cases, your innocence) as we go through some of the best commercials of the Super Bowl.
Okay, let’s start with the awkward ones. Calvin Klein. I don’t know what the girls thought of that commercial, but I was basically sitting there for thirty seconds waiting for some dude with abs to stop swinging his body around in his underwear.
The Bud Light commercials got me a little curious with Stevie Wonder and all, but they had no real point to them. They weren’t really cool or funny—they were just about Stevie Wonder laughing and snapping his fingers.
But if there’s anything I learned from Super Bowl commercials, it’s that pistachios and Gangnam Style do not work out.
There were a few good commercials. Personally, I thought Oreo had the funniest one. A whisper fight involving flipping tables and calling the cops in the library makes for a pretty funny scene. Cream is definitely the best, though.
“Leon Sandcastle” was pretty silly and definitely a favorite for football fans. I wonder how many people cried over Budweiser’s horses. I could’ve sworn I heard a few sniffles in my living room.
Kia’s “Where do babies come from?” was cute too. Anything with babies is usually cute—except E*Trade’s ad wasn’t that good.
While we’re on the subject of bad commercials, let me give you a few.
Axe was pretty dumb, especially with the astronaut idea. Old Spice was definitely better, but the wolves were a bit creepy. Pepsi Max’s commercial had the usual, boring “let’s have a huge house party” plot and the punch line wasn’t funny.
Redd’s Apple Bar was just plain random. Hitting people in the head with an apple was an okay start, but that was the only thing that happened and the commercial seemed dry.
Overall, the commercials this year were average. There were some good moments, but they were few and far between. Hopefully, next year’s will be better.
