The word cancer may sounds intimidating, yet, together, we can defeat it. Relay for life is a national event which raises fund and awareness to save cancer patients. This year, Langley will start the relay on May 16th; the event stretches from 6 pm to 6 am next morning. Each team can set up a tent. Throughout the event, all teams will have at least one member walking around the track. Meanwhile, activity stations will be available, providing entertainment to the resting participant.
Last year’s fundraising goal was beaten by $30,000 and won the best relay in Northern Virginia for Langley. With the motivation, we are making the first huge leap with the goal in Langley relay history; it was lifted up to $125,000. Fund collection started Monday, January 19th along with the kickoff activities: information booth was set up during all lunches from January 19th to 23rd where students could sign up or donate; during the McLean basketball pep rally, the Relay for Life committee introduced their program once again to the entire school.
Students interested in joining Relay for Life to fight against cancer can also go to www.relayforlife.org to sign up or donate.
This year, Langley will be working with the Relay for Life committee of McLean High School. The two competitors come together for a bigger purpose.
