For the 2014-2015 school year, students will have a total of 29 student holidays throughout the year! The new schedule is designed around 11 snow days. FCPS shifted from the one-hundred-eighty day school year to a nine-hundred-ninety hour school year schedule.
“[More student holidays]would be good because it snows a lot in Virginia during winter,” said freshman Jean Cho.
“It is nice to have spread out holidays throughout the school year,” said freshman Celeste Campos. There is one new student holiday in the months of September, January, February and March, and two in November and April. Every end of the quarter, students will be released 2 hours early.
Not only students benefit from by the change; the new plan does not add more workdays for teachers. “[The new schedule] gave teachers more time to do career planning, and individual schools can make their own decisions about how to use those time,” said Vice Principal Mr. Fred Amico.
