When you look out onto the turf under the lights of Saxon Stadium on any Friday night during the fall, one man towers over everyone. Whether it is that he truly is taller than his teammates or opponents on that night or he just looks more intimidating, Lachlan Pitts is a force of nature on the football field.  After being a key piece of Langley’s football team over the last four years, Lachlan will continue to impress at the University of Richmond, where he has committed to play Division One college football.

Lachlan started playing football when he was twelve years old, and since then he has been driven to succeed at the game he loves.  After years of practice and hard work, Lachlan came to Langley excited and prepared to play football.  His drive meant he would spend multiple seasons on Langley’s varsity squad, making significant contributions on both sides of the ball.  Pitts plays tight end on offense and defensive end on the opposite side of the ball, making him a powerful contributor up and down the field throughout each and every game.

As with any successful football player, Lachlan benefits from speed, strength, and agility, but more than anything, some would say, he benefits from an intimidation factor.  In a sport as physical as football, establishing a psychological  upper hand on an opponent is half the battle.  It seems as if Lachlan has achieved this going into just about any game.

“Lachlan Pitts is the scariest human being I have ever seen on a football field,” said junior and varsity football player George Lorenze.

Lachlan’s skills, in addition to the advantage he gains from his size, attracted the attention of many college football programs.  Pitts received offers from many Division One teams in the state, including schools such as William and Mary as well as James Madison University in Harrisonburg.  He also had the opportunity to walk on at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, but Pitts ultimately decided to commit to Division One University of Richmond for the next four years.

“I chose Richmond because the school is great, it has the second best football team in the nation, and also it has great academics,” said Pitts.

Pitts will spend the next four years at a prestigious university with a great football program, but will also remember his great times with Langley football.  Above all else, Lachlan will remember the Langley-McLean home game from this season, in which Langley pulled out an impressive win.

“My favorite memory, I would say, would be the McLean game at home from this season,” said Pitts.

After four big years at Langley, Lachlan Pitts is ready to move on to four more huge years at the University of Richmond.
