This past weekend, the Langley crew team participated in the annual ergathon against West Springfield. The girls and boys novice and varsity teams competed in twenty minute races, attempting to row as far as possible in the allotted time span on the indoor erg machines. Langley’s overall average score was an impressive 4771.96 meters, beating West Springfield by over 150 meters. Langley Crew also managed to achieve victory in the novice boy section and all varsity sections. Langley’s Owen Shenk rowed 5735 m, the highest distance in the entire men’s competition. This victory follows the team’s success last week in the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints, where Sophie Rogers placed first in the junior women’s 1500 meter category, Justin Meeker placed 2nd in the Junior men 2000 meter, and Lauren Ackerman placed 3rd in the junior women’s 2000 meter. These accomplishments are representative of the team’s rigorous winter conditioning season, where hours are spent on the ergs in Langley’s science hallway, during the weekdays and weekends. With the spring season on the horizon, hopefully these victories will be predictive of many more to come.
