The Langley Girls Varsity Softball Team started their season strong, winning their first two scrimmages 11-4 (Mount Vernon HS) and 10-2 (Woodson HS).
Ms. Jessica Roche has coached the varsity team for five years and is optimistic about the team’s seasonal prospects. Despite losing four seniors, including hard-hitting third baseman Julia Weeks, Roche said “We have a lot of returning talent and a lot of new talent.”
However, in order to surpass the success of previous seasons, which included advancing to Regionals for the past two years, the team will have to work extremely hard to replicate their past success.
This year, the varsity team includes one freshman and a whopping seven sophomores. Although the eight underclassmen outnumber the five upperclassmen, Coach Roche is looking forward to an outstanding season.
Sophomore, and returning varsity player, Maggie Natal agrees with Coach Roche, “We have a really strong lineup and people who can play multiple positions.”
Most of the girls on the team also play for club teams. As a result, they started the season in great shape physically and very prepared mentally. They also appear to be coming together well as a team.
Freshman Kerry Bush explains that her Langley teammates “are always helping each other improve and taking advantage of each other’s skill and talent.” She also says that her teammates are like her family.
Their first regular season game is this Saturday at 1:00 pm at Chantilly High School, so come out and support your varsity softball players!
