With team placement decisions finalized yesterday, the Langley Girls Soccer team is already working hard and preparing for a great season.
This year the Lady Saxons will be coached by Varsity coach Mr. Billy Blake and JV coach Mr. Fabio Diletti, both of whom are new to Langley. “Coach Blake has a whole new system to rebuild women’s soccer at Langley,” said sophomore Jenny Labovitz.
Leading up to tryouts, Varsity Head Coach Billy Blake held an interest meeting where he gave the girl’s pre-season workouts, healthy eating plans, and academic goals. “Coach Blake is all about balancing your life,” said Labovitz.
Tryouts began Monday evening on Langley’s new turf field as well as the grass field. During tryouts, the players showed off their talent with exercises such as forty-yard sprints, scrimmages and other drills.
The players were judged not only on skill but also on their love for the game. “ The coaches wanted to see that you had a lot of heart and that you never gave up,” says freshman Clare DaBaldo.
The team’s first season game will take place on March 18th against Wakefield at Langley.
