A freshman is taking the Langley tennis team by storm. Sydney Goodson has clutched the number one spot on the girl’s varsity tennis team.
Senior Kathryn Emery, now ranked second, is ready to “pass the torch down to Sydney, since she works really hard and deserves it.” Goodson, who has been playing tennis for 10 years, says she gets inspiration from her Dad and sister. Goodson used to come watch her sister, former Saxon Lily Goodson, play on the varsity tennis team when she was younger.
Goodson has won many level one Mid-Atlantic tournaments and has traveled as far as Arizona for tennis. She has also attended state, regional, and national championships.
“She could qualify for the individual regional tournament, and possibly even individual state tournament,” said Coach Sarah Vincent. “Goodson and her doubles partner Emery have a great chance to compete and claim the State Doubles title.”
Emery and Goodson both underwent similar circumstances as incoming freshman. “I was in the exact same shoes as she is right now, and she has handled the pressure really well,” said Emery.
“She works really hard in practice and is always first in sprints,” said teammate Kristie Ehrensal.
With the help of Goodson, the team has high expectations for the rest of its season. “This year, we have a really good chance with winning states. Our top 6 is really stacked, and we have a l
