Old, outdated, humid, unsafe, and disruptive; these are all adjectives that can be used to describe Langley throughout its tiresome renovation process. Ever since this three and a half year, 59.8 million dollar renovation has started, it has been the epitome of every students stress. Although it will make the school look better than it ever has since its opening in 1966, there are many sacrifices that students will have to make. On the bright side for us freshman, the renovation is expected to be completed by the beginning of our senior year, yet we will still have to go through three years of renovation. But the 1,600 sophomores, juniors, and seniors will never experience the new and improved Langley, only the long and disruptive journey.
Of the many disturbances that the renovations cause, most students agree that the trailers are the worst. The trailers are hard to walk to in the ice and rain. It takes a long time to get to them because three out of nine exits closed and this could be considered a safety hazard in the event of a fire. In addition, two of the bathrooms at Langley are closed which is inconvenient and can make students lose out on valuable class time. Some other issues include that the construction equipment is being stored on the athletic fields, and as a result there is a lack of practice space. To make matters even worse, jack hammers and other construction equipment are loud and shake the class rooms which is extremely disruptive; it feels as if the roof is about to collapse any minute. Lastly, many upperclassmen are irritated with the lack of parking spots that come with the renovation process. Over half of the parking spots have been closed to make room for the trailers; so many students have to park their cars far away or can’t drive to school at all.
Despite the negative aspects of the renovations there are some positives. After the renovations are over, the suffering will all be worth it. Langley will finally get the renovation it desperately needs. There will be more room to walk in the hallways, updated athletic facilities, better learning facilities, and the school will finally be clean.
