The Shropshire is now The Kaleidoscope
The Shropshire Evolves into the Kaleidoscope
Lexy von Keszycki
On Thursday, January 14th, staff and editors from the Langley Literary and Art Magazine went around to students in classrooms all over Langley explaining the new format, leadership, and legacy of what was formerly known as the Shropshire.
“One of England’s most rural and sparsely populated counties,” is the definition given by Wikipedia, a description much more reminiscent of sheep and old English architecture than the photography and poems of Langley students.
The new name, Kaleidoscope, is intended to bring a sense of life and creativity to the publication. “It is one of the few creative outlets that Langley students have,” says the Editor in Chief, Sophomore Kaity Hinojosa.
A much younger staff, mostly sophomores and a few freshmen and juniors, stands in stark contrast to the senior-headed publication of yesteryear.
By a nearly unanimous vote, the magazine staff decided to print in color this year- a transition which is a big boost to those whose medium is not ink and paper. “A black and white art magazine just doesn’t make sense,” Kaity claims.
New direction and new, zesty colors will guide the Literary and Art magazine to a new, more respected status in the Langley hierarchy.
