No more rumors.  No more guessing.  The prom entertainer will be Shwayze, a hip hop/rap singer who made the US Billboard’s Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums in 2008, and whose singles “Buzzin’” and “Corona and Lime” reached #46 and #23 respectively, on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

According to prom coordinator Ms. Jennifer Bonafide, Shwayze will be performing the night of prom from 11 to 12 along with Cisco Adler on guitar.

Organizers are also hoping that raffle prizes will include a meet and greet with the singer in his green room after the prom court has been announced.

“We wanted to do something with prom more unique and fun so that people would actually have a reason to stay, ” says Ms. Bonafide.

The decision to hire an entertainer was made by the prom committee and Mr. Ragone back in the fall.  They used JL Entertainment Inc as their booking agency to arrange for a pop culture entertainer.  Possibilities ranged from

Vampire Weekend to Kid Cudi.  Shwayze was booked just last week and kept secret due to the complex plans that were subject to change.

Mr. Ragone along with the prom committee and junior class mom Donna Doll all helped with this process.  “They have all been working really hard.  Mr. Ragone has been especially helpful, willing and really convinced the FCPS administrators to allow this, ” Ms. Bonafide said.

The performance will be ”PG-13″ , meaning no illegal activity or drug references in the music. Security will also be tighter than usual and students bringing a guest will have to fill out a guest form in the cafeteria.

“This should be really fun and exciting and will hopefully engage the student body in a prom that they will enjoy, “ said Ms. Bonafide.

The prom will be on Saturday, May 22nd at Westwood Country Club.  Tickets are 65 dollars and will be available starting next week.
